Future Soundscapes
Join us on Saturday August 10th for an exciting full-day workshop! Future Soundscapes is especially designed for people living and working in the neighbourhood, who are interested in shaping the future of their community. The workshop is suitable for complete beginners with sound and recording. After this, come join the open performance evening on August 15th to listen to the soundscapes created during the workshop!
During the workshop, we will learn about the impact of sound on our environment. When residents are asked about their ideal neighbourhood, they often desire a quiet place. However, "quiet" doesn't necessarily mean silent, it means a space filled with pleasant sounds and free from the unwanted ones. Together we will venture out to record the sounds we love to hear, like children playing, birds singing, and the clinking of glasses at cafés - as well as the sounds we could do without, such as traffic noise, construction sounds, or the train rushing by. By collecting and categorising these sounds, we'll collaboratively create a future soundscape that reflects the ideal acoustic environment for our neighbourhood.
This engaging and interactive day is not just about learning and recording sounds; it's also about community building. Get to know each other during the workshop and the included lunch to grow closer together as Utrechters! This workshop is a unique opportunity to contribute to a more pleasant auditory experience in our community while meeting and working with fellow residents.
No sound design experience required. Please bring your phone and a set of headphones (wired not wireless).
