Have no idea what Creative Coding means? Have a background in programming but you wouldn’t know where to start making your own, creative stuff? Or do you simply want to enhance your pre-existing skills and create even more flashy visuals, animations and more?
Filter our events by topic and accessibility level, there is something for everyone. To look up any of our past events, check out the archive.
James Holden Live Coding Benny - a night of algorithmic encounters
Creative Coding Utrecht and TivoliVredenburg team up again for a night of algorithmic encounters.
This evening, James Holden —renowned for his groundbreaking electronic music—takes the stage alongside Turbulente, Eloi el Bon Noi, Sabrina Verhage, and Lucretio. Together, they explore how live electronics and improvisation evolve as a discipline, blending human intuition with the magic of live coding.
In an era where fears of AI replacing artistic expression loom large, these creators demonstrate how digital tools serve the artist, deepening their creative voice. Whether you’re a fan of electronic music, curious about creative coding, or drawn to the thrill of live improvisation, this evening promises a redefinition of what it means to create in real time.
Turbulente & Eloi el Bon Noi present Show us Your Screen (or a session of honest digital craftsmanship)
From Barcelona, an audiovisual performance emerges—dense with IDM, glitch, and feedback loops, where humor and improvisation take center stage. The screen fills with lines of code, then transforms—Turbulente takes Eloi’s digital canvas, and audio-reactive textures begin to form, visual narratives shift and morph. An endless exchange unfolds, a game of infinite feedback, where every adjustment, every glitch, becomes part of the performance.
This is live coding in its most dynamic form—playful, hypnotic, and deeply immersive—where the boundaries between creation and spectacle dissolve.

James Holden plays Benny
The multifaceted career of producer and polymath James Holden enters a bold new chapter: live coding. His ultimate creative outlet? "Benny", his ever-evolving, custom-built software—a modular platform designed for crafting music in real time. Holden has long been captivated by the live coding community and its power to elevate the spontaneity of performance.
After a series of intimate club shows in London, he now brings his exclusive live coding performance to TivoliVredenburg, powered entirely by his own machine, "Benny".

Lucretio & Sabrina Verhage
We close the evening with a collaboration between Lucretio—a veteran of raw minimalist techno, celebrated for his hypnotic rhythms—and Sabrina Verhage, a live coder and interactive designer. Together, they craft a 45-minute journey through live-coded beats and visuals.
Using MOOFLOD (Pharo) for sound and P5LIVE for visuals, their performance blends Lucretio’s signature rhythms with Sabrina’s real-time coded imagery, creating an ever-evolving, unpredictable experience. Each show is unique, a dynamic fusion of algorithmic artistry and raw electronic energy—where code and creativity collide in real time.
